My name is Shaun Lawrence Bennison. I was born and raised in Lafayette, IN. Growing up in a loving home with 2 younger brothers was great. I was raised a Christian and those morals and values have made me into the man I am today. The first school I graduated from was Purdue University with a degree in business management. I couldn't find a job after 9-11. My mom helped me recognize my love for kids and I shifted gears and moved out to Arizona to become an elementary teacher. I got my teacher's certification at Arizona State University. Shortly after that, I earned my Master's Degree in Multicultural/Bilingual Education from Northern Arizona University. Fortunately, there was a 5th grade position open at Rio Vista Elementary School. It was there that I began my career. Now, I have the great privilege to educate future generations at Garden Lakes.
Over the last decade, the education landscape has changed greatly. And with it, so have I. The curriculum is becoming more rigorous. The technology available is growing and providing many more opportunities for students to encounter rich experiences that will help them grow and be ready for the future job market. The challenge is to stay on top of the cutting edge technologies while still incorporating effective pedagogy that will reach all learners. That is a challenge that I have a passion for and am devoting my life to pursue. |
